So in 2008 big Ed said it was fairer to remove the 10p tax rate, but now he wants to bring it back. Also said Gordon Brown was wrong, well he was certainly right on the latter. Was Gordon Brown ever right?
So to fund it a mansion tax on properties over £2 mill, well is that not most properties in London, now most Mp's have properties in London to save on weekday travel costs to their constituencies. This could be a back door way of further increasing MP's expenses, because they could not possibly afford to pay anything more, not on their meagre salaries.
He says the 10p tax band will be based on how much is raised by the Mansion Tax, so do not get your hopes up for this 10p. He also wishes to reduce the 40p tax band, so higher rate tax payers will not benefit, so more will then pay higher rate. He then goes on to say ‘And we would use the money to cut taxes for working people'. I thought all persons who are in a form of employment are working people. Is big Ed a bit confused. Perhaps he was Confucius in a former life, '(551–479 BCE) was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn Period of Chinese history.', but then I may be confused also.
