The arguement about who is paying what into a pension arrangement is not valid. Public sector employees have currently a very generous pension arrangement, but the comparisment is that most of these arrangements in the private sector are being withdrawn by employers, as they are too costly to administer. The same, on a cost basis, is true of public sector schemes, the difference being, where it is too costly, the extra is taken from the funds paid by everyone in taxes. Private sector employees would love to have a similar arrangement. Senior bankers and fat cats not included, they just earn too much.
While the government is looking at public sector pension arrangements, they should also be looking at the pension arrangements for MP's and Ministers. If you think public sector pension arrangements are good, you should see those for MP's and Ministers.
